The 2020 suffrage centennial was a “success” in spite of the challenges!

The preparation for the 2020 suffrage centennial was years in the making by volunteers who were determined that the 100 years of women voting in the US pass without notice.

Then 2020 finally arrived with lockdowns and so many crises that it seemed as if the 100 years of women voting would not be noticed. In spite of the concerns over health and safety, so many events and celebrations were held that we couldn’t keep track of them.

So congratulations to the tens of thousands of individuals determined that the many many volunteers of a very diverse movement not be forgotten.

Suffrage Wagon News Channel is conducting a post card campaign to support the New York State Museum in its planning to place the “Spirit of 1776” suffrage campaign wagon on permanent exhibition. Join in with the support by signing and sending postcards.

SuffrageCentennials.com is resuming publication!

If you are headed to Long Beach, New York this summer, enter the beach at the Boardwalk’s main entrance so you can take a look at the marker commemorating Edna Buckman Kearns and her suffrage work in 1913.

It is one of many markers commemorating the votes for women organizing on Long Island.

Suffrage Wagon News Channel is commemorating the extensive work by volunteers that led to the approval and ratification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1920.

There has been a monumental effort conducted to bring this once little-known volunteerism to the attention of the American public by more contemporary activists who are now interested in publishing a book on the national votes for women trail. Visit Suffrage Wagon News Channel for more information.

Someone was listening when in the past we made it clear what we wanted. A national women’s “Votes for Women” trail and much more.

SANTA DELIVERS FOR HUMAN AND VOTING RIGHTS

At the end of 2021, so much progress has been made on a national Votes for Women Trail that it is astonishing.

In June of 2021, the City of Long Beach (New York) installed a historic marker funded by the Pomeroy Foundation commemorating Edna Kearns and other activists and their visit to Long Island in 1913 to campaign for voting rights.

PASSING A TORCH FROM ONE ACTIVIST GENERATION TO ANOTHER IS ESSENTIAL

Perhaps my grandmother’s generation didn’t end racism and ageism and sexism and more. But they did what they could. There were tens of thousands of citizens who in some way made a difference. It’s possible they couldn’t pass a purity test compiled by those of us today. But have we ended racism and ageism and sexism and more? We’re doing what we can and passing the torch to activists in the future.
